Tolka Has Partnered to Create the First NEXTGEN TV Certified Accessory Device – And Now You Can Get Certified Too

Did you know that only 8% of new TV sets selling right now offer NEXTGEN TV features?

That’s expected to inch up in the next few years, but it’s moving at a relatively slow pace.

At the same time, there are 100 million+ HDTV sets out in the market today. If we don’t take advantage of those, we’ll never achieve ATSC 3.0 deployment on the scale that consumers need and want.

At Tolka, we’re proud to announce that we’ve partnered to create the first NEXTGEN TV certified accessory device. We worked with ADTH to get their NEXTGEN TV Box certified and to market quickly. Their box allows both ATSC 3.0 and ATSC 1.0 free-to-air television programs to be viewed on any IP-compatible TV display.

Alex Day, our Vice President of Business Development, talked about this tech advancement on a panel about ATSC 3.0 as part of the Spring TV Tech Summit that took place during NAB 2023.

It’s an interesting conversation that you won’t want to miss. One thing to listen for: the reason why all of the panelists agreed that ATSC 3.0 features give you an advantage when it comes to revenue generation.

Now, we’re opening up the certification process to you, too. Your set-top boxes, dongles, and televisions can be among the first devices to be NEXTGEN TV certified.

Here’s why getting NEXTGEN TV certified gives you a big advantage…

  • The NEXTGEN TV spec was created by the Consumer Technology Association to certify that you’re offering a consistent package of advanced, in-demand features like Technicolor Advanced HDR and HLG, Ultra HD, and the Dolby Enhanced Dialogue features to improve audio quality and support viewers with hearing impairments.
  • You’ll be able to provide a major advance in the viewer experience because NEXTGEN TV includes features like 2160p 4K UHD video resolution, a frame rate of 120 frames per second, high dynamic range, wide color gamut, and cinema-quality audio.
  • Our software is compatible with just about any TV, even older ones, thanks to the use of watermarking and other proprietary techniques. So you can deliver advanced features to your entire consumer market.
  • Your consumers can engage with interactive features like an advanced TV guide and personalized recommendations, which has monetization capability that can provide you with a quick return on your investment.

We can work with you to get your device NEXTGEN TV certified and to market quickly, too.

Step 1 is for us to get on a call together. We’ll talk through your needs and specifications, and come up with a plan to add Tolka’s ATSC 3.0 software stack to your product and then get it NEXTGEN TV certified.
